I'm pretty sure 50 will be fine. Also, buy Hyper Potions instead of Full Restores, so much cheaper, and about as effective if you haven't got a status problem. Maybe have one or two full restores just in case, but they're mostly a waste of money. Kinda like Max Repels, really.

I agree, though, Hyper potions are way better.

By the way, I made some little sprite things for my team.

Engie lvl 54
He's a pretty good powerhouse on my team. His defence stats are a little low, though. Also, when I got him, the first thing I thought of was to name him something TF2 related. Thus the name Engie was dubbed.

Pokemon Thread - Page 9 Chewy
Chewy lvl 38
I'll be honest, I only use Chewy for Surf and as a wall while I heal my pokemon. I had trouble coming up with a design for his sprite.

Pokemon Thread - Page 9 Spy
Spy lvl 49
Yes, another TF2 based one. Has great attack and speed, but poor defence. I usually keep Engie at the back when training Spy, just from something decent to transfom into.

Pokemon Thread - Page 9 Applejack
Applejack lvl 59
I acually only caught Applejack just recently. It has some interesting atacks, like Bounce and Flare blitz. Also it's based on My Little Pony, in case you haven't noticed.

Pokemon Thread - Page 9 Tron
Tron lvl 53
He's great for giving out damage due to all his attacks being different types. His speed could be improved, though.

Pokemon Thread - Page 9 Isis
Isis lvl 53
I've always wanted a Cofagrigus from the moment it was revealed on the internet. Isis has great defence, but really bad speed. It's Mummy ability works great with battle stradegies.

Pokemon Thread - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pokemon Thread   Pokemon Thread - Page 9 EmptyFri Mar 25, 2011 4:30 am

Just thought I'd say something I heard on Smogon:

Fighting type is the new psychic type. In the first generation, there was no dark types to be supereffective against psychics, and no steel types to resist them. Psychic had a few key weaknesses, such as bug and ghost, but none of those pokemon were any good and were barely seen. Needless to say, this made Mewtwo the best pokemon ever invented.

Then came the fighting type in this gen: its only weaknesses are flying and psychic, which aren't as common anymore. Fighting type basically dominates the generation because of dark, rock, and steel types.

What I'm getting to here is Mienshao. I use one of them, and I must say it's pretty incredible. It has a great speed to match its equally great attack, allowing it to put a serious hurt on the opponent quickly. Hi Jump Kick is a great move for him because it gets STAB and has a massive base power of 120. Another nice move is Acrobatics because of some additional type coverage and because it's such a powerful move under the right conditions, but doesn't get STAB.

And Hutch, I greatly respect your choice of Archeops as a flying type. Base 140 attack is nothing to scoff at, and Archeops has the speed to overcome most other pokemon. It can take out stuff pretty fast, but if you're in a double battle, you need an additional pokemon to help cover its few weaknesses, such as water and rock. I use my klinklang for that because it has Gear Grind and Thunderbolt. (as an added note, klinklang makes a great staller because of its many resistances. That's why mine knows Toxic)

Whoah... I wrote a lot about pokemon. It's a wonder how I have time to do my homework.

PostSubject: Re: Pokemon Thread   Pokemon Thread - Page 9 EmptySat Mar 26, 2011 5:06 pm

Just thought I like to write down my pokemon team list here from my following games.

Diamond: Empoleon-Zidane lv 53
Staraptor-Jack lv 53
Luxray-Selphy lv 54
Golem-Sharlean lv 52
Bibarel-Bucky lv 44. This team easily got my victory over the elite four.

Heartgold: Typhlosion-Ignitus lv 51
Graveler-Pebble lv 75 (I think she needs to be traded in order to evolve)
Fearow-Hanma lv 52
Furret-Scout lv 53
Togekiss-Echo lv 53
Raticate-Chip lv 52 They were my team that won against the elite four.

Black: I really can't pick who should be in my top six as all of them are brilliant. So far this is the only team I could go with.

Servine-Auron lv 28.
Victini-Psifire lv 28.
Liepard-Katlin lv 28.
Herdieior-Barkeep lv 28.
Simipour-Randy lv 28.
Zabstrika-Zabra lv 28.

I hope you guys found my team list intresting enough. Btw heres my friend code from Black. 3267-4367-5323. That's the only game that works with wi-fi for me!

This comment is from a while ago. But you should definitely reconsider.

First of all, I replaced Dragonite with Salamence because it is better in almost every way. I didn't use Garchomp because it doesn't have Roost. Also, I replaced Swampert with Volcarona because it owns as a special sweeper, with enough speed to use Morning Sun before it faints. Obviously, I save him for last to make sure I get all the opponent's rock types first.

But also, each of my pokemon has a niche. Swellow, with a flame orb, guts, and Facade, deals massive damage, and has enough speed to overcome most non-ubers. Breloom makes for a nice physical sweeper that regains health with a toxic orb, but I may switch it over to a SubPunch set since I already have a physical sweeper. Dewgong can stay in battle for a while if you exploit its Hydration ability to cure its sleep after using rest, and once again, it has enough speed to use the healing move before it faints. Prediction not required. Finally, Metagross serves as a great tank, with super Defense and great Attack. Meteor Mash, Psychic, and Earthquake make for great type coverage.

Moral: don't judge a book by its cover. But by all means, if you have any ideas on how to make my party more "serious" then I'm open for suggestions. And I was not being sarcastic there.

Pokemon Thread - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pokemon Thread   Pokemon Thread - Page 9 EmptySun Mar 27, 2011 11:41 pm

To be honest, Gelo, Dewgong was what made me think it wasn't a serious team. It's an Ice type. THE worst type in the game defensively. ONE resistance, itself. Weaknesses to many, many types, such as Fighting, the single most centralising type currently. And it's speed, contrary to what you say, is awful. Totally ignoring the turns it would need to set up rain, it would be OHKOed or brought to a significantly low amount of health before it could land a hit. And as I said, it is not fast.

As for replacements, you could use Manaphy, which is superior in every possible way. No joke. It has higher defences, it has better typing... And it has Tail Glow, which in Gen V is a +3 in Special Attack. Whiscash has Hydration as it's Dream World ability, no Ice type, and Dragon Dance (although it has lower defences). Meaning ic could make up for it's awful, awful speed. Get someone with a Japanese game and a Dream World Barboach (like me) to trade you one.

Actually, don't use any of them. The rain from your Dewgong/Manaphy will hinder your Volcarona. Half damage fire attacks and quarter healing from Morning Sun is not pleasant. Seeing as you will most likely have given your Dawgong/Manaphy/Whatever a Damp Rock, this will not be helpful. I would swap it for either:

Jellicent: Great Special Defence, Recovery, Ghost Type. 'Nuff said.

Forretress: Good Defence, Rapid Spin. Seriously, a third of your team is weak to it, and Volcarona gets half its health removed on entering battle. Get something with Rapid Spin. This could even replace Metagross if you wanted it to. Forretress can use Stealth Rock itself, and you could stop their Rapid Spinners with Jellicent.

I've gotta say though, that is a pretty awesome team thinking about it. Also, this is a long post.

PostSubject: Re: Pokemon Thread   Pokemon Thread - Page 9 EmptyMon Mar 28, 2011 12:05 am

Yeah, I did my research and discovered that Dewgong it fairly terrible. Too bad, because I really like it. I have thought about using a rapid spinner as support for my Volcarona, to avoid Stealth Rock. I suppose I could use Foretress as lead to set up Stealth Rock, swith out, and come back after the opponent's stealth rock-er is gone.

I do want something that has an ice-type move, however, to deal with any dragons. I'll see if I can come up with anything. Maybe Nidoking? Walrein? (or should I say Stallrein)

I was also considering Darmanitan as a physical sweeper rather than either Breloom or Swellow. The POTW on Serebii just came out as Darmanitan, and I really like that base 140 attack stat. Its speed is better than Breloom's too, and Sheer Force makes Flare Blitz crazy powerful. I already have the fire coverage, but... it's definitely a tough decision.

Pokemon Thread - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pokemon Thread   Pokemon Thread - Page 9 EmptyMon Mar 28, 2011 3:32 pm

I'm gonna tell everyone a few battle strategies that may prove to be helpful in the future. You know those items, the Toxic Orb and Flame Orb? They cause the holder to either be burned or poisoned in battle. But that doesn't sound very good! Most of the time, you're right. But these items can be very useful sometimes, if you use them right.

You've heard of Swellow, right? Of course you have. You've heard of its ability, Guts? This ability gives a 1.5x attack increase when Swellow is under a status condition. You've also heard of the move Facade? Its power DOUBLES when used under a status condition. Its normal base power is 70, so when Swellow is burned, that power becomes 140. That's a lot, considering Hyper Beam is 150. Add this on to the Guts increase and you have a really strong attack. Oh, and did I mention STAB? Same Type Attack Boost. It gives a 1.5x increase to any move that is the same type as the user. Facade is normal type, Swellow is normal type, bada bing bada boom. Another 1.5x.

In terms of base power, this means that Facade gets 140 when burned. Add on 1.5x for guts, it becomes 210. Another 1.5x for STAB and that makes it 315. Oh my God is the most appropriate term for this situation. If only Swellow had good defenses, it could do this forever. Facade has 20 PP, you know, so you can do that a lot of times.

The use for the Toxic orb is a bit more basic. Breloom can have the ability Poison Heal, which restores health instead of taking it away when Breloom is poisoned. Slap on a Toxic Orb and it's better than using Leftovers. Or maybe it's the same, 'm not sure.

And did I mention that these status orbs keep you from being inflicted with other status conditions? When you're burned, for example, the opponent can't paralyze you with Thunder Wave. It doesn't stop self-inflicted sleep from using Rest, however, but theoretically you get burned or poisoned at the end of each turn, so I think it would take away your sleep status at the end of a turn. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

This has been Battle Strategy 101 with Gelatino.

PostSubject: Re: Pokemon Thread   Pokemon Thread - Page 9 EmptyMon Mar 28, 2011 5:36 pm

But wait! Could there be a Pokemon Gelo didn't cover!?! Impossible! But there is one: Gliscor. Right now it isn't any different to any other pokemon. But, when the Global Link opens, you will be able to access the Dream World. Get a Gligar in the Dream World and it will have the ability Immunity. Evolve that to a Gliscor, and it gets Poison Heal.

What does this mean? Well get a Poison Heal Gliscor holding a Toxic Orb with the moves Fling/Acrobatics/SwordsDance/Other. Get Poisoned, Fling the Toxic Orb to badly poison a foe, Swords Dance, wreck havoc with Aerobics.

Gliscor is more defensive than Swellow, meaning you can (*Gasp*) actually take a hit. No longer will pokemon with Choice Scarfs outspeed and kill you. You have defences.

Also, not to brag, but on my Japanese Black, I have an Immunity Gligar. Mwahahaha.

I never thought of Gliscor. I guess I just never paid enough attention to it.

I also just thought of something for my competitive team: Replace Volcarona with Alakazam, replace Breloom with Darmanitan. Alakazam has the same special attack as Volcarona but significantly better speed and it has a more reliable recovery move. Darmanitan would make a nice SubPuncher with better attack and speed than Breloom. In addition, its defenses aren't necessarily terrible. And if I'm not SubPunching, I can give him a Life Orb and use Flare Blitz, which apparently negates Life Orb's recoil (according to serebii). I really like Breloom, but Darmanitan just does the job better.

And I'm fairly sure that Alakazam can learn Ice Beam, so while it can't easily switch into OU dragons, it can decimate them when it gets the opportunity. Because I'm not using Volcarona anymore, a rapid spinner won't be quite as necessary.

In addition, I'm taking your advice and using Manaphy. The main problem I have right now is obtaining one, since I'm not really a Pokemon Ranger fan and I haven't been to any events.

You think Vaporeon would do well as a RainRester, due to my inaccessability to Manaphy? It's a bulky water and it has Hydration. Rain powers up water moves as a bonus. Plus, I could use Electrode as a lead to set it up with rain, giving it an extra move to increase its bulkiness (acid armor, anyone?) making it near invincible with a already high special defense.

Hydro pump and Ice Beam would dominate almost everything, if I want Vaporeon to destroy stuff. But on the other hand, it would make quite a nice Toxic staller with such good defenses and immediately healing Rest.

Also, I has a question: if you breed a pokemon with its Dream World ability, will the baby have that ability too?

For the first question, that sounds like a fantastic idea, actually. I WOULD say to make it a Wish Supporter, but all Dream World Vaporeon are male, and Wish is an egg move. Which brings me to...

You can breed Dream World Pokemon. However, the ability will only be passed down if a female has the ability. And then there's a 50% chance of it not happening

If i may say so Mienshao is an incredable pokemon. He is strong and fast, also when he knows U Turn he is great as he usually goes first which alows you to then change to a type advantage. I found him difficult to capture though.
