Mass effect 3 to have co-op mode?

I felt like posting this, since I've recently replayed the mass effect series in order to ready my Shepard for mass effect 3, and as I read the daily PC gamer headlines, I came across this.

"Mention of an ‘online multiplayer pass’ has been spotted by Eurogamer in an advert for the collector’s edition of Mass Effect 3, strengthening rumours that Mass Effect 3 could feature a co-op mode when it’s released in March next year.

Eurogamer previously reported that Bioware are working on a “standalone” four player co-op mode with “competitive elements”. CVG cited a “reliable development source” as the origin of information they received suggesting that Mass Effect will get “original missions made for online,” designed to be replayed over and over again. “We’re exploring multiplayer in all of our games and all of our franchises,” BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka told Eurogamer. “It’s always an idea we’re interested in.”

Owen got a chance to quiz associate producer Michael Gamble about the existence of a co-op multiplayer mode at Gamescom this year. No matter how hard Owen tried, Gamble remained evasive.

Owen: Co-op stuff – can you tell me a bit about the co-op?

Michael Gamble: Well we haven’t really talked about anything relating to multiplayer, that’s mainly rumours and speculation that’s been going around. Right now for Mass Effect 3 it’s all about the singleplayer experience, delivering the best possible experience of the time. We have a lot of people expecting an amazing ending, so we want to deliver on that.

Owen: I know that you’re not confirming that but do you think that could work in the Mass Effect universe in the game as it is now … maybe a co-op mode?

Michael Gamble: Uhm – in the game as it is now, I’m not so sure but I think that Mass Effect is a really great IP and in terms of multiplayer it’s – there are places within Bioware games in general to put multiplayer things and we think that this adds a great amount to the game, depending if it’s done right. So it has to be done right and it can’t be rushed, it can’t be thrown in haphazardly or it’ll feel like a tacked on feature. That was the last thing that we wanted to do with Mass Effect and that’s why we’re focusing on singleplayer."

This, to me is amazing. A playable co-op would lead to a MASSIVELY more diverse experience, open up more strategies, and finally answer the question, who is more powerful? An Adept or a Vangaurd?

Have you played the mass effect series? Or have you not gotten your hands on the series yet? If you haven't, I SERIOUSLY recommend picking up a copy. It's fairly cheap on steam (I might be wrong, since valve and EA have had some issues with each other, I can't be 100% the ME series is on steam) and probably cheap in retail stores, I assure you. It's worth the price. (Please note that both mass effect one and 2 are fairly performance-hungry on PC)

Sounds like something I'd be interested in. Judging from the article extract though I'm not going to hold my breath — if they wanna get it right, as they said, I'd expect it as some kind of spin-off or expansion/DLC long after ME3 is released.

Mass Effect 3 will be awesome with or without co-op...but it won't be the same since Legion won't be a teammate

...Crap. I loved that guy.

At least we still have Garrus and Tali, and I love both of them. I just hope Miranda doesn't show up again, it's as if her only purpose in the mass effect series was as fan service. Aside from that she was just a boring, 2 dimensional character with rather bad teeth.

I agree, Miranda was a dull character with nothing more to her personality other than a pair of fantastic ta-tas. She also is a pretty crappy teammate to bring along for most missions. The first time I ever did the colector base mission I decided Miranda should be the biotic specialist to lead me through the swarm, I also brought Legion and Mordin. This was before I learned that it had to be Jack or Samara/Morinth. Miranda had an epic fail and the barrier fell...Legion was carried away by the swarms...I actually cried after that.
