IP Bans

It has come to my attention that the user "Llamahater" as tried to enter the forum from multiple alt accounts. I'm going to say now for anyone else, I am going to start checking the IP's of some users who have been banned and are trying to get in from an alt account. If the IP matches at ALL. Both the alt account, and the user will have their IP address banned.

This won't be with any user, but users who I might think are using alternative accounts to avoid a ban, or get away from punishment if they do anything wrong.

I know, this seems kind of strict. But I'd rather do this for a while than deal with twenty alternative accounts. All other users will not be checked as I said, only the IP's of banned members who might be trying to get back in.

I've been talking to LazerNugget on the Lab, and he says he can't get on GAC. How come? Did you ban him by mistake? Or on purpose? If so, I think he'd like to know what's going on.

Well, What is the problem if he doesn't do anything when he comes back? Isn't an IP Ban a little harsh for that?

This could be the fact that Lazer and Llama live in the same general area and could be splitting an IP address. Or Llama is an alt of lazer, either way. I'll try to resolve it.

EDIT: Their IP's were identical. This, to me means either they live really close to eachother, or Llamahater is Lazer's alt, please ask him about it. I'll talk to him too, I just want to be completely sure this is just a coincidence.

Hutch, I'm pretty sure Lazer Said that Llamahater was his friend . I cant remember though if they we're RL friends.

Lazer has stated that he is not an alt of Lamma, or whoever it was that spammed and broke the forum rules, and I am inclined to believe him. It is unfair to allow someone who has not caused a problem to be punished, solely to eliminate the trouble maker. I believe I understand your dillema, and I can understand your choice, but I find your decision in this matter to be too strict. I ask you, as both a friend, and a head of the forum, to reconsider your verdict on this ban. Thank you.

Was just about to do it already after some more consideration, though I'm mainly adding the IP ban to keep this from happening, It's just as easy to ban the accounts as he comes on. I've said I'd loosen up a bit, but I am still showing no mercy to spammers, which will probably never change. But I lazer does not deserve to be kicked out for the ignorance of another person. I've already come to this conclusion earlier today, but still. You make a very good point, mudo.

I was a bit overzealous here, and I apologize lazer, I might have been a bit too quick to judge here and I need to be a lot more careful with the IP ban, and will check them to make sure no one else uses that address before I ban them. But I do guess we need to slip up with out ultra-deadly super internetz weapons of destruction at one point or another. If that makes any sense.

Yes, I will try very hard to keep my annoying school mate OFF GAC. I don't like spam either, so Yeah...

What if they are using a proxy server? Out of experience I know people get alternate accounts when they are banned in a forum (especially in RP forums), but they sometimes do so via proxy (not servers, programs, like a TCPListener). then what?
