| Hi, folks,
Here's a thread to post your Stencyl creations - namley, games developed in the programming engine Stencyl. I recently have converted over to Stencyl for it's amazing graphic capabilities and HQ, high-refresh HD stunts it can perform. Basically, for you guys who aren't into making games, it's a block-programming language great for making flash games. Personally, I'm really excited about it, as some of the games are simply amazing.
If you've never heard of it, or tried it, I'd encourage you to do so.
Cheers, - 3D | |

| Interesting... I looked it up on YouTube and it looks really nice, but does it only create top-down games? Or can it be used for platformers as well? | |

Oh yes, it can create other games than top-down - if not, that would be a pretty sucky program. Download it, it's got plenty of examples to check out. (= Epsilon, of course it's free - I'm way to much of a cheapskate to try anything else. If you both are new to programming I might suggest doodling a bit in Scratch to get the gist of things, but then again, maybe starting in Stencyl might be easier - I just found out about it recently, though the setup seems somewhat similar. - 3D

| Wow, this looks amazing! It brings back the days were I wanted to do nothing but create games. I never got to it though, and this may be my chance...
Probably should start out with Scratch first though. How hard do you think it is to make games with this thing?
(Not sure how much I'll use it if I get it, I still play Spore among other things)

| Lazer, ever heard of something called Google? It's a revolutionary web service that allows you to search keywords and come up with web results from that one word! Amazing, isn't it? Oh wait, you'll need a link for that too, won't you? | |

(Not sure how much I'll use it if I get it, I still play Spore among other things) Scratch is more "user friendly" but I don't recommend it for making professional games which you'd want to profit from financially. I'm quite excited about Stencyl, but I must point out that while yes, the physics built in is amazing, it's not nearly as easy in some aspects. For me the primary difficulty is the transferral of terms to get used to - I can program exactly what I need in Scratch, whereas in Stencyl I'm still fighting through... And Lazer, seriously...what the heck did you search up that you did NOT find Stencyl? Just google the word Stencyl and it's the first result (Or Stencyl Game Engine). But if you're one of them 'bing' users, first I must shun you, but then I must give you a link. http://www.stencyl.com/ Also, a link to Google - as Dragon said, it's quite useful. http://www.google.com/ - 3D

| Been working a bit with Stencyl, so far I've made an animated character from scratch, and a little test level to work on stuff with. I have to say that I'm very impressed with this layout, and I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun in the future. | |

| I played a few games on the site. It's not bad, I think I'll probably get it. I might get Scratch first to get the idea of these engines first, but I don't know, switching from Scratch to Stencyl might be harder than just starting with Stencyl. | |

| How have things been going for you guys? So far I'm finding the built-in physics to be annoying...I turned it off, but still, using force and velocity is not really the way I want to go about programming. Overall, though, the graphics capabilities seem to be very good, with alpha channels and multi-layering in-game to top it off, plus the huge assortment of resolutions, including the proper sizing for iPhones and other smartphones.
So far I like it (Grand total of 4 hours doodling around...silly school, trying to teach me things), but what's your impression of it?

| I'm enjoying it, to be certain, though it is a bit of a pain to manipulate at times. Also, StencylForge can be hard to download from, and I get frequent error messages when I try to get something. Still, and impressive program, and I'm having fun. | |

| The only game engine I have is Genesis 3d and that hasn't proved to be helpful. Apart from the fact that I don't know how to do anything other than add shapes and texture them, the textures themselves don't seem to work. Is Stencyl user friendly? | |

Is Stencyl user friendly? Yes, quite so. The physics is a little annoying, as it's built in, so my style of programming had to change, but all in all, yes, pretty user friendly. But keep in mind it's not just going to be "Oh, hey, I wanna make a game!" and *poof* you have some amazing flash game. Something to keep in mind, too, is this is mainly for 2D games. I find a lot of 2D Games amazing and addicting, personally, but if you're doing 3D, look at Unity or Blender (both are free, as is Stencyl) - 3D

Would tutorials help? I've been thinking about making tutorials and trying to find time to make them (not much time available right now). But I can probably take out some of my day to make tutorials for blender, as I still have 9:30-10:00 in the evening to record something. - 3D

| I am trying this out. I have been using other user friendly game developer tools like Game Maker (The better version is not free though). | |
