Anyways, welcome to the E3 2012 thread! What are your hopes and dreams? Your thoughts and feelings? You could probably do one of those silly bingo things, here, too. Just discuss E3.

I don't know. It's mostly discussion based, right?
Anyway....I'M SO HYPED!!
I cannot wait for this game. I loved the first one, and from what I've heard, the plot in this is supposed to be great.

Castlevania is one of those series I've wanted to try but never got around to doing so. It's name makes up half the word 'Metroidvania', so it can't be that bad.
On the subject of Metroidvania, Metroid Dread would be fantastic. Shame it won't be announced.

I'm hoping for something from Valve. Like Half-Life 3!

The only thing I'm even remotely interested in at this point is Planetside 2, almost everything else will be an overhyped sequel of a series I got bored of a long time ago (A la Halo 4).
It doesn't really matter anyway, E3 has become a rampant hypefest and nothing else. The amount of ACTUAL GAMEPLAY is becoming less and less every year, and I keep on seeing more random people on stages telling me that the game will be: "The best AAA title ever" and more COMPLETELY USELESS CINEMATIC TRAILERS. It's really a great indicator of what the gaming industry has become, style over substance, shiner graphics over good gameplay, and more useless modern FPS's.

To be honest, the fact it's a rampant hypefest is what makes it fun for people who would otherwise be completely uninvolved (such as me). Also, I'm pretty sure at least some footage is released of the gameplay, mostly due to the demos.

That's the problem, only SOME of the footage is gameplay. Trust me, I'd be on the hype bandwagon too ifnI could see more demos and less cinematic garbage.
Plus, PC gamers very often get the short end of the stick in terms of new content, the games big developers show often end il being console ports. That's why I'm so interested in Planetside 2, it's a PC exclusive, and it's pretty much EVERYTHING I want in an mmofps.

All I care about is what 343i is going to show, like Halo 4. 343i can have my soul, just give me Halo 4

Valve told the public that episodes 1 and 2 were part of a trilogy, so Episode 3 is more likely to come out than Half-Life 3.

I don't know, that announcement was back when they were going to try and release Episode 3 within the next year or so, and who knows what sorts of things they've been up to since then. Episode 3 might have gotten scrapped, remade, and by now it could be long enough to be called Half-Life 3. Honestly, I think Half-Life 3/Episode 3 is going to be released alongside whatever the next evolution of the Source engine is, be it Source 2.0 or something else.

Asides from those games that were mentioned at least twice from you lot, are any other games going to be shown like Pokemon Black and Pokemon White 2 and Pikmin 3 (If there even is a Pikmin 3)? Apperantly, I might be able to go next year's E3 if I save up tons of money (which is going to take soo long...;_;).

Except Half-Life, I'm hyped about Dishonored, the new Bioshock and Prey 2.

Black 2 and White 2 won't be shown. Pokemon rarely has an E3 presence. Pikmin 3, on the other hand, is in production for the Wii U and is a reasonab;y safe bet. Not guaranteed, but fairly likely.

E3 never showcases anything people are going to really appreciate. Toss a few pictures, videos and comments in and you got a crowd hyped. Meanwhile, the more hardcore fanbase roll their eyes. Its the same ordeal each year.

I definately want to see more of the game "Beyond", which was created by the same people who made Heavy Rain.

Found out about Dead Space 3; Teaser Trailer here:
Apparently there's going to be a co-op mode, where the second player takes on the role of John Carver. I haven't played the Dead Space series, but I want to. I just have my source of that from Tobuscus. I'm also looking forward to Assassin's Creed 3.

Dead Space 3 looks pretty good. Hopefully the Co-op mode isn't required, as I only have one Xbox controller. It looks like they aren't basing their game off of scaring their players anymore.

No, Co-op isn't required, and there's the Drop-in/drop-out mechanic, which was probably taken from the LEGO games. You can do the game without needing to do Co-op, though there are more cutscenes and stuff in Co-op, according to the game site.

...But the first one just blantently copied tons of other games.
I mean, It wasn't really a bad game, but it was just so unoriginal.

That's not usually an obstacle for the game industry. If every game or game series was completely new and original, hardly anything would stand out. Besides, constant innovation means that the good game formulas would only make a single appearance because every game has to be original.
That said, it is pretty hard to come up with original ideas. Alien invasion, for example, seems to be a good formula for games because they've been around since Space Invaders, and it doesn't look like people will ever stop making them. My point for this paragraph is that the central theme of a game does not necessarily have to be original.
But even then, the smaller aspects of a game aren't as hard to devise. Things like combat, navigation, HUD, weapons, and above all, the story. The greatest defining factor of unoriginal games, in my opinion, is a copied story. This is because it takes the game in the same direction as the original game, thus leading to similar combat sequences, plot developments, and character interactions.
I'm not even sure if I even made the point I had in mind, but this is close enough.
