Traveling back in time is theoretically impossible because of the obvious problem of causing paradoxes. But going to the future is possible, in a way. Time passes at a lower speed near a high gravity object such as a black hole. If you spent, say, two hours near a very heavy one like the Galactic Core, four hours would pass elsewhere. So you could say it took you two hours to go four hours into the future.

I think I mentioned a similar situation in an earlier post, about a spaceship traveling at 99% of the speed of light. Time would slow down on the ship so that the crew would experience one day for every "real" year. Is that cool or what?

I still don't understand why moving at a high speed makes time go slower. Can somebody explain this to me? To me, it seems that moving really fast just makes you go at a high speed. I don't understand why this would affect time.

Say you're on a train traveling at a high speed. If you get out of your seat and run up toward the front of the train, your forward speed is added to that of the train.

As we know, the laws of physics prevent anything from going faster than the speed of light. So if the spaceship is going at just short of that speed, and someone on board runs forward, they could theoretically beat the light barrier. So time on board slows down so that they can't go fast enough.

There's a documentary series called Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking that describes this very well.

Wait a second... why can nothing go faster than the speed of light? We don't have sufficient data to prove that. It's like saying that since you can't eat ten stacks of pancakes, it isn't possible. We don't know if we can pass the speed of light or not, because we've never done it. We don't have sufficient technology to surpass that speed. How do we know that we can't pass the speed of light?

Okay??? Anyway, What are your guys' thoughts on robots and they're overcoming power associated with technology growth? And do you think that we can ever find dark matter and find how it works? I would like to see your opinions on this, it would be interesting to know.

Edit: Gelo I'll answer your question in a sec.

Dark matter is the stuff that is sopossed to make the gaps in space and black holes. I definetly take an intrest towords it. Have any of you heard about anti-matter?

XD!! Have you never read this thread!? I'm writing a REPORT on anti-matter for fun, and most of my inventions involve it, it is usually based upon uud anti-quarks and have opposite charge.

BTW, dark matter is what holds the universe together, and dark energy is a force trying to tear at it effortlessly.

Does anyone else want to say something about anti-matter or dark matter/energy?

I have a question.

If genes of an animal, with particular internal properties of a chemical nature, were inserted into a plant for the plant to grow better, could vegetarians still eat it?

First of all, anyone who is a vegetarian is completely defeating the point of being a vegetarian. The point is that you are not being cruel to animals by eating them. Well, they're gonna get eaten anyway. If you stop eating meat, then the supermarkets aren't gonna change the amount of meat they provide for sale.

Anyway, I'd imagine that there would be some argument over this. On one side, people would not support the enhanced plant because of possibly cruel treatment of animals when the genes are extracted. On the other hand, people would consider it totally humane because no animals are being killed or harmed in the process. Pick a side and battle it out with the other GACers if you want.

Hey! I'm vegetarian! Thanks for saying my purpose is wasted! That's soo nice! humph

Anyway, I DO agree that it would be a debate on genetic mutation and cross genetics.

I have a non-mutant idea for an invention that uses electro-vibration-genetic-growth-stimulant (Or using a complicated series of electric shocks to stimulate plant growth) That could solve many problems...Any questions or advise?

I think that already exists, "Plantricity".

I believe it is unrealisitc on having this at a large scale, like mass production, because I'm not sure how much the growth is affected.

Well I guess you haven't seen MY design.

1) The devise pierces into plant tissure outer layer.
2) The devise sends a small electrical stimulant to shock cells
3) The vibrations wake cells and cause them to speed up their work
4) The cells will multiply all around and the plant itself grows
5) The plant keeps growing

Why would cells speed up their work by vibrations? The only way that the only reason cells would speed up work in the first place is if more ATP was somehow introduced (possibly by the introduction of new mitochondria) or if the cell's DNA were changed, since the nucleus sends out instructions based on DNA.

I KNOW THAT! Cells don't SLEEP! XD

And gelo, my answer to that in electronic DNA imprints that when vibrated can cause the imprints to shift into duplicate form and cause the cell to split.

That would have to be a very precise vibration. But what does vibration have to do with electricity?

Electricity produces high energy vibrations around the static threads of electricity. (OW! I just hurt my tooth!) ...as I was saying, yes the static creates vibrations to stimulate cells.

In the poll, paleontology should be included within biology, not within archaeology.
Dinosaur fossils were not created by ancient Egyptians, after all.

I didn't include paleontology as biology because they are very different things and some people like one more than the other. And the thing about archaeology was a mistake, I meant to make it say paleontology...
